China’s ethylene import dependency rises in January-May: NBS

China’s import dependency of ethylene rose to 7.63% in January-May, up by more than 2 percentage points from the same period last year, data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed.
Sinopec increased its ethylene imports amid low import costs in the period, a company source said.
Apparent consumption of ethylene decreased by 0.89% year on year to 6.93m tonnes in the first five months of this year, dragged by a 3.4% of year-on-year drop in output, according to NBS data.
China’s naphtha apparent consumption rose by 3.89% year on year to 13.61m tonnes in January-May, NBS data also showed.
