Summary:
China has become a net importer of coal. Prices in the domestic market are more closely linked with those in the international market.
Coal prices at the domestic ports rose for 16 weeks in a row from mid-March in 2011 when the local downstream consumers bought more domestic products in view of the increasing prices in the international market. The domestic coal prices are expected to rise further in the future, despite drops in July and August.
The high coal costs led to losses of power-generating plants in the year. The National Development and Reform Commission thus hiked the on-grid power tariffs and electricity prices for industrial and commercial users.
Highlights:
What impact will the rising coal prices have on the domestic market?
Will the Chinese government link domestic power prices directly with the coal prices?
Will the country keep high coal imports? Will it suspend exporting coal?
What are the prospects for major coal end-users in China?
Any new updates with those policies related to resource tax, strategic coal reserves, coal-based new energy market and coal pricing mechanism?
C1 will answer all these questions for you in the China Coal Market Research (2011).
