Bunker business in southern coastal areas almost at standstill over tropical storms

Sep 01, 2010 21:56 PM

C1 Energy (Shanghai) -- Sep 1, 2010-- Due to continuous tropical storms, bunker business in southern coastal areas has almost been at a standstill since Tuesday, C1 found.
Because of the tropical storm "Namtheum" that hit Fujian late on Tuesday, bunker operation in Fujian has all been suspended since Tuesday, according to Xiamen-based sources with SinoBunker and Chimbusco.
Local bunker business is not expected to come back on line before Sep 3 as another tropical storm "Lionrock" is anticipated to land between east Guangdong and Fujian on Sep 2.
The bunker market in Huangpu has found hardly any demand over the past two days since no cargoes arrived, though bunker operation was not halted, said some sources with local bunker suppliers.
Shanghai port also found very sluggish bunker demand on Wednesday, after bunker operation was restored, said a bunker source. "Demand is not expected to improve obviously before Friday,"  the source added.
