Introduction:

The European Union (EU) forbids its member countries to use toxic substances like polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in processing oils and tyres, effective as from Jan 1, 2010, according to the Directive 2005/69/EC of the organization on environment protection.

Thus, the research and development of environmental-friendly rubber processing oils has been the top concerns of both domestic and overseas rubber and tyre manufacturers.

Moreover, amid wider application of environment-benign products, the international tyre brands are scaling up investment in China and China's large tyre companies are lifting exports of radial-ply tyres. Under such circumstances, environmental-friendly rubber processing oils are quickening their pace in placing aromatic processing oils in tyre production. However, constrained by unsophisticated production technologies at the domestic refineries and higher production costs for tyre production, it will take long for them to totally replace aromatic processing oils.

Imported rubber processing oils are still dominating in the Chinese market. EU cut demand for tyres from China, which constrained wider applications of domestic environmental-friendly rubber processing oils. In addition, the oils produced by the domestic refineries are of different quality standards with the EU standards. So, once tyre companies replace imported rubber processing oils with the domestic products in tyre production, they will have to undergo quality checks which usually take long time. This also dampened tyre companies' interest in shifting from the imported products to domestic products.

In the long run, domestic demand for environmental-friendly rubber processing oils will increase. Domestic tyre companies expanded their productions in 2011. The tyre export market shows a rosy outlook. Tyre companies, both at home and abroad, are active in developing and applying environmental-friendly rubber processing oils. These will spur up the demand for the environmental-friendly rubber processing oils.

C1 launched a multi-client research on China’s rubber processing oil industry. This report introduces the current supply and demand of rubber processing oils in the country, new and expansion projects, overview of the upstream and downstream industries and market outlook.

This research aims to sketch the current situation of China’s rubber processing oil market and the future market trends for rubber processing oil producers, traders, importers and exporters, as well as lubricant blending plants, tyre manufacturers, synthetic rubber plants, investors and researchers, etc.
